How I Hiatus: Sardegna, Italy

Cradled in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea, 180 miles from the coast of Africa, Sardegna or Sardinia was originally a Phoenician settlement before being conquered by the Carthaginians and finally the Romans.

We planned this as a family trip and wanted somewhere exotic but easy to access. We decided to head to southern most tip of Baia Chia where a beautiful lagoon is home to indigenous Flamingos and most villages still speak the native dialect.

The beaches are protected by giant white sand dunes and look onto beautiful crystal waters. We made sure to explore the charming inland towns of Pula and Teulada as well as the absolutely breathtaking archeological remains of the city of Nora.

We couldn't pass on a ride around the coast on a gorgeous sailing boat, by which we visited untouched coves, small uninhabited islands and ate ceviche tuna, local shrimp, lobster and fettucine!

There is something about the Italian way of life on the ocean that just cannot be described. We explored, ate, read, rested ... all while feeling like we could almost see ancient boats in the distance in search of this beautiful and untamed new land.
