How I Hiatus: Bahamas

We just got back from the Bahamas -- a journey of 3 planes (one of which was a 19 seater prop plane), a boat and a golf cart. When we finally jumped off the boat onto Harbour Island we knew it had all been worth it. A tiny Island less than a 1/2 mile in width, Harbour lies just northwest of Eleuthera in the turquoise Caribbean Ocean. Here we got to celebrate our dear friends wedding and explore the island's small town of Dunmore. We stayed at the most wonderful hotel, the Ocean View Club, situated on a hill above the long pink sand beaches of the eastern shore.

Words cannot explain how special the Ocean View Club is. The owner took over the property from his mother, who ran it for three decades, just until a few years ago as a bed and breakfast. Arriving from the sandy streets the understated white wood panel home opens into a bohemian cove, where the kitchen is baking fresh goods every morning and ocean breeze flows through as freely as the house dogs and cat! The views are what really cause you to a gasp, making you realize you really are on the edge of the Atlantic.

These are the kind of places you hesitate to share with the rest of the world for fear of tainting them. However, if you are the kind of person that likes a low key environment, where people actually greet and talk to each other and where food is cooked in a family style kitchen, then perhaps you might want to check it out for yourself!

We think the pictures speak for themselves.
